One of the big talking points in the Italian media going into Celtic’s Thursday Europa League game was Kristoffer Ajer.

The Norway international was a target for Milan throughout the transfer window, but the asking price set by those in charge at Parkhead put the Serie A side off a move.

That being said, there were still a few articles stating they could return for a second attempt down the line, and Thursday’s fixture was a great chance for the media and the club to evaluate him up close.

Ajer started the game, and while he was unable to stop Celtic from losing 3-1, he still impressed.

That’s what Gazzetta dello Sport point out to their readers on Friday, giving him a 6.5/10 and writing ‘now we understand better why Milan had included him in their shopping list’.

It’s not all roses, as they also state ‘it must be said that in the end he too is shipwrecked, but early on he was a barrage’.

Good praise for Ajer, who is now even more likely to see his name placed next to Milan’s in the coming months, with a return leg at the San Siro to look forward to as well.
