Celtic have been linked with a move for Lyon’s Mahamadou Diawara since the summer.

There has been talk that the Bhoys remain an interested club for the midfielder, having seen an attempt to sign him fail in the summer transfer window.

There is now a further update from France about Diawara, who has played only two Ligue 1 games for Lyon this season and is struggling for game time.

FootMercato today report that the young midfielder’s entourage have asked Lyon why he is not getting time on the pitch despite being promised that when offers for him were rejected in the summer.

The report explains Celtic were one of the clubs who had an offer rejected, with the Scottish side having offered an initial loan deal with the option to buy set at €8m.

There is now renewed hope for Brendan Rodgers’ side in the chase for the teenager, with Lyon interested in a permanent sale.

The French side want a fee of around €4-5m to sell Diawara, who would like an exit.

Several clubs are interested and while there is no confirmation of whether Celtic will again bid for 19-year-old, it could prove to be a key opportunity for them in January.

They now have the chance to sign him for a lower fee than what they were offering as an option to buy some months ago.
