Celtic had 1. FC Nürnberg’s Kanji Okunuki on their agenda for the winter 2024 market, but Brendan Rodgers’ side weren’t able to secure his services.
A fresh report from Bild talks about the interest shown by Celtic in the winger.
Celtic are mentioned when discussing the latest on Okunuki’s situation at the second division German club.
The Japan international left his country when 1. FC Nürnberg signed him from Omiya Ardija in June 2023 and managed three goals and an assist in the first half of last season.
This encouraged Celtic to show interest in the winger, who managed two goals and three assists in this calendar year.
He lost his place in the starting lineup after Miroslav Klose’s arrival in the summer. Bild indicate the attacker is no longer a main option for the manager, which could result in a transfer.
It’s claimed there are signs that Okunuki, who had a chance to leave in the summer, can finally say goodbye to 1. FC Nürnberg in January.
This gives Celtic a fresh opportunity and they could take advantage of his situation to sign him for a cheaper price, as long as they are still keen.
