Mexican winger Isaac Brizuela has revealed an offer that Celtic have made to sign him a few years ago.

Quoted by outlet Record today, the player says the Scottish Premiership side tried to get him following his participation in the 2014 World Cup.

“After going to the World Cup in Brazil, Celtic came looking for me, but Toluca didn’t think much of the money they were offering,” he said.

Despite being in Mexico’s squad in Brazil, Brizuela didn’t have a single minute in their campaign, which finished with a defeat to the Netherlands in the round-of-16.

So Celtic had someone watching his performances at club level.

Toluca didn’t let him move to Celtic in the summer of 2014, but accepted to sell the player in January 2015, when he was transferred to Mexican rivals Chivas in a €6m deal.

We wonder if Celtic offered less than Chivas for the player, or if Toluca were negotiating too hard with the Scottish side at the time.

Now 29 years of age, Brizuela managed to make a solid career for Chivas, playing in all possible positions on the right side of the field. He has 17 goals and 26 assists in 195 appearances for the club.
