The list of clubs who are the favourites to land the Benfica defender Ruben Dias continues to change pretty often.
Not long ago, there were several reports saying Juventus and Manchester United were closest to signing the Eagles’ star.
Now in a story from newspaper Record today, it’s Barcelona and Manchester City who are pointed out as the main candidates in the race.
Record says Benfica don’t want to let Ruben Dias go, and in normal conditions, would only accept his departure in case the €100m release clause is triggered.
However, as said before by president Luis Filipe Vieira, they can’t hold players that get big salary offers. Dias currently makes €2m per season in Lisbon, and in case any clubs offer two or three times that, they’d accept to let him go for a reasonable bid.
Regarding the clubs who could sign him, Record points out that Barcelona and Manchester City are those who’ve been heavily linked to the player lately.
It’s also claimed that Barça would only spend up to €40m on him, so perhaps that’s a sign of how much Manchester City need to bid to guarantee this signing.
