Catalan newspaper Sport have a double page spread on pages 2 and 3 of their Thursday edition, covering possible options for Barcelona to sign a striker.
The club’s chase for a new forward has been going on for some time, as they look to find someone who is all of relatively cheap, good, and content to play back-up to the club’s famous trinity.
Sport have lots of possible candidates, and one of those is Memphis Depay. The Dutch international had a difficult first season at Manchester United, and was frequently hounded by the media.
In the Netherlands his fondness for wearing hats actually caused genuine outrage at some newspapers, and the English newspapers were astonished that a multi-millionaire footballer had nice cars, and went shopping for bottled water at supermarkets.
Whilst that circus could hardly be blamed on the player, Depay didn’t do himself many favours on the pitch.
On the ‘pros’ of Barcelona signing Depay, Sport say he was a ‘crack’ in the Eredivise, and clearly has huge potential, plus a powerful shot.
On the ‘cons’, Sport say Depay’s character made him fail in the Premier League, and that Manchester United subsequently want to sell him.
Former Manchester United players Robin van Persie and Radamel Falcao are also linked.
