Following his goodbyes to Real Madrid, Casemiro spoke about Manchester United for the first time in a press conference.
The agreement to sign the defensive midfielder was already announced by the Red Devils prior to the weekend, but because of visa rules, the player was unable to complete the transfer in time to face Liverpool on Monday night.
That being said, he’s expected to be there regardless to watch Erik ten Hag’s men, but that isn’t exactly what he wanted.
During the press conference, the midfielder made it clear, relayed by AS: “I was talking to my wife these days and I felt I was like an 18-year-old boy wanting to play now. If it were up to me, I would be playing today against Liverpool.”
Making it clear to all that he felt his time at Real Madrid, where he has won everything a number of times, was up, the challenge of playing in the Premier League is what tempted him to join Erik ten Hag and co. at Manchester United, which he considers to be ‘the biggest club in England’.
As for whether he is moving for the money, the defensive midfielder seemed almost hurt by that question, stating that ‘people are wrong if they think that’, because ‘it’s the last thing’ he is thinking about right now.
Regarding the Premier League, it’s a league he ‘loves’ and one he ‘wanted to play in’ for a long time, describing the change of clubs as ‘necessary’ at this point in his career.
As for what he hopes to bring to Manchester United, he added: “I want to leave my values behind, I want to pass on to United what I learned here, that to win titles you have to win day to day.
“I know I’m going to a beautiful, incredible league, everyone speaks well of me with it. At 30 years old I’m at my best, mentality and health, I know how to take better care of myself, I continue to enjoy football and my family.”
Either way, Manchester United are signing Casemiro, and the Brazilian is very excited to be moving to Old Trafford, where he will be in charge of the midfield and will hope to be able to help turn things around.
