Earlier on Friday, we relayed the news from L’Equipe claiming Cardiff and Nantes had an ‘agreement in principle’ for the transfer of Emiliano Sala in January.
The forward, who has been extremely efficient in front of goal this season, was said to be the subject of a €20m discussion, one that was very close to happening.
It was all meant to be very hush hush, until L’Equipe caught wind of it, of course.
However, Emmanuel Merceron, who used to work with the French side and is widely regarded by members of the local media as a good source, claims the newspaper might have jumped the gun a little bit.
Taking to social media, he explained an agreement was yet to materialise.
Furthermore, in their assessment of the situation, 20 Minutes don’t feel Nantes will see €20m as ‘sufficient’.
According to Merceron, Sala, should he move to Cardiff City Stadium, would also see his salary be multiplied by 6.5, which, at 28 years of age, will be seen as winning the lottery.
The Argentine is said to have no interest in prolonging his stay at Nantes beyond the current season, and he’ll undoubtedly see helping the Bluebirds stay up as a challenge worth taking.
While nothing has been confirmed yet, things certainly look like they’re heading in the right direction.
