Bought from Brighton & Hove Albion last season, Yves Bissouma took some time to settle at Tottenham before a broken ankle scuppered the vast majority of his campaign.
Things have changed this year under Ange Postecoglou, however, as the new Spurs manager decided to build his midfield around the Mali international, who has become a prominent figure on the pitch at the London club.
Also a fan of music and fashion, the Tottenham star gave an interview to Gaffer, where he discussed the transition to his new club after spending four years on the south coast.
Initially bought from Lille for €16m, he was sold to his current club for close to €30m, which can always bring some expectations.
That didn’t bother Bissouma, however.
He said: “It was okay for me. I was happy, really happy to sign at Tottenham. Brighton and Tottenham are very different, you can’t compare both teams. I was very happy to sign for Tottenham. But for me, I feel like I always do things that put pressure on myself, so everything I do I try to do as calmly as I can, because I know myself, and I believe in myself.
“So yeah, I can have one or two seasons that aren’t so good, but I believe in myself, and I work hard to show people that I’m here and that I can do what I have to do. But you know football, sometimes you can be good or bad; you just have to stay focused on your goals, and that’s what I’m trying to do this year.”
Bissouma has been almost ever-present in the Premier League this season with 12 appearances, and only missed two games de to suspensions, first after getting two yellows in the 1-0 win over Luton before picking up another suspension ahead of the Aston Villa defeat for accumulating too many warnings.
