Despite all the hubbub surrounding Manchester City and a reported interest in Harry Kane, there has been no real concrete movements from the Premier League champions on the transfer market so far.
Exits have taken place, with the likes of Eric Garcia and Sergio Aguero joining Barcelona on free transfers, but their replacements, if any will be brought in, have yet to arrive.
Pep Guardiola will be among the main decision makers at the Etihad when it comes to what he needs for his squad going forward in order to try and lift the Champions League and retain the Premier League title, but, so far, there hasn’t been anything.
For the Spanish manager, part of this is due to the state of the market, which he talked about in an interview with TV3 in Spain, relayed by Mundo Deportivo.
He said: “I imagine that if we want to sign a Barcelona or Real Madrid players for €100m or so, they will not complain. They will be delighted that it can be done. I hope they would. I don’t know how the market will end. I don’t know, with Txiki [Begiristain], what we can do because many times you want to do things that aren’t possible.
“What we can do, we will do and if not, we’ll continue with the squad we have, with which we have won three league in four years and we have finally reached a Champions League final”.
To us, that doesn’t sound like Manchester City are going to go all out this summer in terms of transfers, suggesting a huge move for Harry Kane remains out of the question.
We’ll have to wait and see, but those were very reserved promises from Pep Guardiola, who makes it sounds like they’ll have to make do with what they can afford, and nothing else.
