Hugo Lloris, recent drink driving incident aside, has been a model professional wherever he’s gone, whether it be at Nice, Lyon, Tottenham or for the France national team.

A relatively quiet man (the strong silent type), his hard working attitude is what has earned him many plaudits all over the world, to the point where, even if he’s not the most expressive, he’s become both Spurs’ and his country’s captain.

Speaking to Canal+ in France, relayed by ParisFans, the 32-year-old explained where this comes from, and who was behind this particular approach of doing his job.

He said: “Gianluigi Buffon? He quickly became a source of inspiration for me. I can remember when he started at Parma, with his manner of disassociating himself from other goalkeepers. He had this presence, this aura and personality that allowed him to have this huge career.”

Now at Paris Saint-Germain, transferring from Juventus on a free over the summer, the veteran goalkeeper has shared his game time with Alphone Aréola in the league, as the Ligue 1 leaders remain unbeaten after 10 games, winning their last two outings 5-0.

For Lloris, you can ‘only have respect and admiration’ for the 40-year-old, who, according to the Tottenham goalkeeper, ‘has won everything you can possibly win’.

Everything except the Champions League, Hugo. Don’t forget the Champions League!
