On Wednesday, Algemeen Dagblad explained that Tottenham Hotspur are providing strong competition to Ajax for Chelsea’s Hakim Ziyech.
It was also stated the attacking midfielder wants to leave the Blues as he is not part of Thomas Tuchel’s plans at Stamford Bridge.
The Eredivisie winners are looking at the 29-year-old as a potential successor to Antony, if the latter were to leave the club. They are now joined by Tottenham in the chase for the Chelsea player.
Dutch journalists Johan Derksen and René van der Gijp were among guests during Vandaag Inside’s show yesterday. They gave their take on the possibility of the Morocco international picking Spurs over the Amsterdam club.
Derksen believes Ziyech’s personal preference could motivate him to join Tottenham.
“Ziyech was the big star in the Netherlands and actually failed at Chelsea. I can imagine that he prefers Tottenham, because he still wants to succeed in England,” Derksen said, as quoted by Ajax ShowTime.
On the same topic, Van der Gijp explained: “If you can play at Tottenham or you play against Sparta, RKC or Go Ahead, then you go there, right?”
Another journalist, Özcan Akyol, backed Ziyech to snub Antonio Conte’s side and return to Ajax. However, Derksen feels otherwise.
“A bit like a failure [to return to the Netherlands]. He is received here with applause, that would be a warm welcome, but then the boy has failed in England,” Derksen added.
