Manchester City’s Raheem Sterling has seen his playing time limited this season. He has managed only 129 minutes of action in the last six league matches.
Barcelona are showing interest in the winger after failing to sign him towards the end of the summer window.
For the past month or so, various reports coming out of the Catalan media have indicated the La Liga side’s desire to sign the 26-year-old in the winter market.
Three days ago, we covered claims made by Mundo Deportivo that the 26-year-old ‘wants to leave’ the English champions in January, but the Citizens ‘would not make it easy’ for the transfer to take shape.
Barca will find it difficult to sign the England international on a permanent deal. Therefore, they are looking at a loan transfer in January.
Pep Guardiola took part in a charity event organised by Juan Carlos Unzué at Club de Golf Sant Cugat, where he was directly quizzed about the recent reports linking Sterling to Barcelona. Mundo Deportivo have relayed his comments.
“I have no idea, not that I know… And obviously I wouldn’t tell you this either,” the City manager said.
“We have too much work to do, but if Barcelona are interested in any of our players, I am convinced that… Barcelona continues to be an attractive club, more than attractive. The city, the club, the history and this for the coaches, for the players, always seduces a lot.
“If Barcelona are interested in our player, they will start the machinery, it is transatlantic. Barcelona, in the good and the bad, can do what they want.”
Clearly, Guardiola has not done enough to put off any further reports linking Sterling to Barcelona.
