Manchester United were keen on signing Kieran Trippier in the last window, but were reluctant to meet the high demands set by Atlético Madrid for the transfer.

Over the past few days, reports in the British media have pointed out that Newcastle United are showing interest in the right-back.

Claims made in England have reached Spain, with AS relaying it and providing additional information about the 31-year-old.

The outlet first details how Diego Simeone was reluctant to let the former Tottenham Hotspur man leave the club in the summer. Therefore, there was ‘no opening’ for a negotiation with the Red Devils, despite them wanting to secure his services.

Although a move to Old Trafford did not materialse, the England international ‘likes’ the Premier League side.

Born in Bury, a town close to Manchester, the defender ‘does not see with bad eyes’ returning to the area in the future.

In other words, Trippier, who ‘likes’ Manchester United, is open to the idea of joining the Red Devils, even though he continues to be an ‘important player’ at Atlético.
