Portuguese midfielder Dalcio seems excited for his loan spell at Rangers. The 21-year-old actually sees the Ibrox move as a good chance to return to Benfica at a higher level.
The player was interviewed by newspaper O Jogo, and sounded like he’s really focused on doing well for Pedro Caixinha in Scotland to then going back to Portugal.
Speaking of his goals with the Rangers, he said: “This chance to play in UEFA competitions was an extra factor of motivation for me to come to Scotland. I want to shine in this great tournament.”
He also claimed the Rangers loan is an “opportunity to show value” and be able to “fulfil the dream” of finally debuting for Benfica.
“Benfica debut two or three youngsters per year and we feel more motivated to see the age doesn’t count. Like my father used to say, the train only passes once, and I’m prepared to take it when it passes by me. I have the dream to play for Benfica’s first team.”
Dalcio joined Benfica from Belenenses in 2015, but never really had the chance to play first team football. He’s made 50 appearances for the B squad in this time.
The spell at Rangers is his chance to convince the Portuguese club he deserves a chance, so it’s clear he will take it very seriously.
There are loanees who don’t impress and are sold by Benfica right when they get back to Lisbon, and he doesn’t want to be one of them.
That can only be good news for Caixinha and Rangers.
