Burnley’s Steven Defour may now be more settled at Burnley, after a lack of attractive enough offers in the summer, but Belgium’s DH believe his international future is looking a bit rocky.
Defour didn’t get a solitary minute from Roberto Martinez, and that’s despite Belgium already being qualified for the World Cup, and therefore able to more freely experiment with their squad.
Indeed, Defour hasn’t had any Belgium minutes since November of last year, which doesn’t exactly demonstrate Martinez sees him as a crucial component of the squad.
DH point out there’s plenty of competition for the Burnley midfielder, and there’s a chance he could miss out on the World Cup.
At 29 years of age it would almost certainly be Defour’s last opportunity to go to the World Cup, and he won’t want to miss out. Club-wise, Defour is getting appearances and is now more prominent under Sean Dyche, so he’ll hope that can help convince Martinez to give him a place on the plane.
