This summer has seen several Belgian players returning home to finish their careers, and it seems Steven Defour is going to join that list.
The midfielder joined Burnley in 2016, but several injuries limited his chances for the Clarets, and the two parties agreed to a mutual termination over the weekend.
It hasn’t taken Defour long to find himself a new home, though, with him now seemingly on the verge of joining Antwerp back in Belgium.
La Dernière Heure (DH) report the midfielder will sign a one-year deal at the Belgian club today after negotiating his departure from Burnley.
HLN back up that claim and say the 31-year-old will undergo a medical today ahead of completing the move.
That was at the beginning of last week, but Burnley returned a few days later and told the Belgian club they were willing to cooperate and allow Defour to return to his homeland.
Their willingness to forego a transfer fee means Antwerp have the funds to give Defour the wages he wants, around €2m, and a deal should be completed sooner rather than later.
