Eintracht Frankfurt’s Ansgar Knauff has aroused interest from Newcastle United, according to claims from Germany.
The 20-year-old joined the Bundesliga side on 18-month loan from Borussia Dortmund in January. Operating mainly as a right wing-back, he scored three goals and registered two assists from 19 matches.
Knauff was vital in Eintracht Frankfurt’s Europa League success last term, scoring a goal each against Barcelona and West Ham United.
According to Sport1, clubs in Germany and abroad have him in their target list, including Newcastle.
Eddie Howe’s side have ‘already knocked on Knauff’s door’ to sign him, and top clubs from Serie A and La Liga have taken a closer look at the BVB owned player. His current market value is estimated around €10m.
Eintracht Frankfurt don’t have an option or obligation to buy the Germany U21 international. The versatile player already admitted he wants to continue in Frankfurt, which makes it difficult for Newcastle or another club to sign him this summer.
Dortmund, meanwhile, have to ‘offer a a perspective’ to Knauff because he will have a year left on his deal when he returns to Signal Iduna Park in 2023.
Sport1 explain the possibility for Knauff to continue at Eintracht Frankfurt beyond 2023 is not ruled out, even if he will cost them a lot. At the same time, if he shines next season, his suitor list could continue to grow even further.
For now, Newcastle’s efforts to sign Knauff this summer may not yield any result as there seems no desire from him or the two German clubs to change the current agreement in place.
