Brighton and Hove Albion star Leandro Trossard has insisted recent praise by Jose Mourinho was nothing more than a ‘pat on the back’.
Trossard was the star of the show in Brighton’s win over Tottenham at the end of the month, with his goal sealing a 1-0 victory.
Trossard’s strike was just his second in the Premier League this season and brought his side their first home win of the campaign as a result.
It drew praise from Mourinho after the game, with the Portuguese boss full of compliments for the Belgian following the final whistle.
Such an interaction naturally sparked comments, with the obvious claims that the 26-year-old could find himself a target for the Tottenham boss in future.
Trossard, though, insists there was nothing in it, and his sole focus is improving his number of goals and assists between now and the end of the season.
“It’s really nice when you are appreciated by a trainer like Mourinho. But he just gave me a pat on the back, that was all it was,” he told Play Sports, relayed by Voetbal Primeur.
“There is still some room for improvement, but I do feel that I am now in a good flow.
“Everything is starting to work out again, and it is also nice that you can continue with goals and assists.
“Of course, there could be some more. I’ve had some bad luck and have hit the woodwork five times, of course.
“I want more, and I’m going to try to do everything about it.”
