Brighton and Hove Albion star Kaoru Mitoma is one of the ‘two main names’ being looked at by Napoli as they look to add an Asian star to their squad.
That’s according to Tuttomercatoweb, who report that Napoli will be signing an Asian player between January and June next year.
They explain that the club are eyeing a move to as a marketing ploy to open up a new avenue for the club between merchandising and television rights.
They want to find a quality profile that can further increase the club’s draw in the Asian market but also become a key player on the pitch.
They managed this with Kim Min-Jae before his move to Bayern Munich and the idea is to sign a player who can be key for the next few years. The focus is currently on either a Japanese or a South Korean player.
With that in mind, the ‘two main names’ are Brighton’s Mitoma and Takefusa Kubo from Real Sociedad. Both would cost a lot and could only be approached if there was at least one major sale.
That could be Victor Osimhen, who is currently on loan in Turkey, or Khvicha Kvaratskhelia, whose future is yet to be determined. Kang In Lee at PSG is another option, although they’re unlikely to sell him, as well as defender Ko Itakura.
The Brighton and Real Sociedad stars would be far more attractive signings, though, and are now being targeted for either January or the summer.
