There are a couple of reasons why Brighton & Hove Albion fans could get excited about the club’s long-time chase for Valentin Barco.
The first one was reported by D Sports Radio at the weekend. On Twitter, he said the Seagulls sent some scouts to see the player in action against Godoy Cruz in Mendoza.
It was claimed that despite interest from Atlético Madrid and Manchester City, it was Brighton who would be keeping an eye on the player, who’s protected by a US$10m release clause.
Another factor that shows the race is now hotter is that Boca Juniors have just played their last game of the season, and that’s seen as a sign that Barco will soon leave the club.
Outlet Soy Xeneize writes that this may have been the player’s last appearance, as after a disappointing season, the Buenos Aires side may be ready to sell.
Brighton continue to get named as one of the strongest candidates, although the outlet writes that Manchester City are his favourite option.
So it seems that besides triggering the clause, the Seagulls must convince the player that he could succeed there.
