With the Lisbon derby between Benfica and Sporting being played this Saturday, the Portuguese press has lots of stories on the city rivalry this week.
One of them, brought by newspaper A Bola, is about the players from both clubs who could be leaving at the end of the season.
Franco Cervi is among them, and at least according to A Bola’s records, the Premier League is the biggest threat to take him from the Eagles this summer.
The outlet points out that Brighton & Hove Albion, Newcastle United, Swansea City and West Ham are all contenders to sign the player, who is currently protected by a €45m release clause.
The story linking the four clubs to the winger first started in the English press last month, but was confirmed by the very same A Bola a day later.
Currently with four goals and 10 assists this season, Cervi is a pretty important player for Benfica, so it’s unlikely they will let him go on a bargain.
All this competition from the Premier League makes it sound like there could be an auction for him, so it’s hard to think of him leaving for much less than the release clause.
