Brighton & Hove Albion forward Leandro Trossard has been told to stop talking about his place with Belgium after he failed to turn up at the World Cup.
Belgium crashed out of the World Cup earlier this week, with their 0-0 draw against Croatia meaning they failed to secure progress from the group stages.
The result has already cost Roberto Martinez his job, the Spaniard resigning immediately after the game, while there has been plenty of criticism for those in the squad in Qatar.
Trossard is one of them, having earned his place in the group after shining for Brighton at the beginning of this season.
Those performances had led to plenty of calls for Trossard to be given a starting role in the squad, ahead of Eden Hazard.
It’s something that the Brighton man has been talking about in public too, being more than happy to comment on the matter when asked about it in the build up to the tournament in Qatar.
He failed to back that up with his performances and has found himself criticised by former footballer Khalilou Fadiga as a result.
“Trossard should never say that he belongs in the starting line-up,” Voetbal Nieuws report him saying.
“He has to keep quiet and react on the field, because he has never reached the level of Eden Hazard. Too many players think they are already a basic player after five games.”
