Brighton and Hove Albion goalkeeper Kjell Scherpen has expressed his pleasure at how his loan spell at Vitesse has gone this season.
The shot stopper has been speaking to the Dutch club’s official website as his loan deal with them comes to an end.
The 23-year-old has spent the season on loan in his homeland, joining Vitesse in August last year after it was made clear he would not be a regular for the Seagulls this season.
He’s instead enjoying regular playing time with Vitesse since then, making 25 appearances in the Eredivisie and keeping seven clean sheets, as well as conceding just 31 goals.
That’s a decent number for a young goalkeeper, particularly when playing in a side that have finished 12th this season.
The key point is that he has enjoyed regular playing time away from Brighton, ensuring that he’s been able to continue his development, a better situation than simply spending a season sat on the bench.
That’s the way he is looking at things, with the Brighton goalkeeper insisting that he is happy with how things have gone for him personally.
“It was a season with ups and downs. The beginning was difficult, also for the team,” he told Vitesse’s official website.
“Everything still had to fall into place. After the winter it went better. Eventually I was able to confirm that myself with a number of clean sheets, so that’s nice.
“I do look back with a good feeling. I had a great time at Vitesse. And despite a number of injuries, I played quite a lot. That was important for me. The more you play, the better you get at it.
“So, I noticed that too. That’s the biggest gain of the season for me. A lot has happened, but I end it with a good feeling.”
