Werder Bremen goalkeeper Mio Backhaus has ended up on the radar of Brighton & Hove Albion and Barcelona.
That’s according to Sky Deutschland, who cover Brighton and Barcelona interest.
The 20-year-old is a product of the Bundesliga side’s academy and is yet to make his first team debut.
Last season, Werder Bremen sent the stopper on loan to Dutch side FC Volendam, and he made 34 appearances in all competitions.
The Germany U20 international is behind Michael Zetterer at the club and could get some senior team minutes at some point this season.
Werder Bremen are open selling Zetterer because of the Brighton and Barcelona target. Sky warn the German club about the Seagulls and the La Liga side’s desire to secure the player’s services.
The report states Brighton and Barcelona are ‘interested in signing’ him, but the two clubs have no plans to make Backhaus their No.1 immediately.
Fabian Hürzeler’s side see Backhaus as a ‘talent for the future’ and would send the German out on loan. Barca also have the same plan and Brighton have to battle it out with the Catalan club for the youngster’s signature.
