Brighton and Hove Albion star Leandro Trossard has revealed he didn’t sleep well following their defeat to Manchester United last month.
The Seagulls were beaten 3-2 by United at the end of September in a highly controversial game they very much didn’t deserve to lose.
Graham Potter’s side had dominated for much of the game, but an own goal from Lewis Dunk and Marcus Rashford appeared to have won the game for the visitors.
However, a 95th-minute equaliser from Solly March looked like it had secured a point for Brighton before controversy struck as Manchester United were handed a penalty after the final whistle, which Bruno Fernandes duly dispatched in the 100th minute.
That saw Brighton walking away empty-handed, despite having had more shots, shots on target and possession than Manchester United in the game.
Further adding to the frustration was the fact that they had hit the woodwork no fewer than five times, with Trossard one of those unlucky enough to do so.
And he admits that he had trouble sleeping that night, believing he could have done things a little differently.
“I didn’t sleep well that night”, he told Sport Magazine.
“If I have something to reproach myself for? I only thought of one thing when I saw that shot hit the crossbar: to send the ball into the top corner.
“That kind of shot doesn’t give the goalkeeper a chance. Afterwards, you could say that I should have calmly placed the ball.
“If I had put the ball ten centimetres lower, everyone would have congratulated me on this fantastic goal. Luck wasn’t smiling on me.”
