As reported recently, Brighton & Hove Albion and Ajax Amsterdam were in talks for the transfer of goalkeeper Kjell Scherpen.
The 21-year-old wasn’t a regular under Erik ten Hag, and with no guarantees that he would be used next season and beyond, a negotiation was struck with Graham Potter’s side.
Voetbal International in the Netherlands are now reporting the two sides ‘have almost agreed on terms’ for the goalkeeper’s transfer, with the fee ‘said to be around €5m’.
It’s said the Seagulls can ‘fulfil his wish’ of getting playing time, which he wouldn’t have received at Ajax, having only played four times with the squad this season.
Arriving from FC Emmen two years ago for €1.5m, Scherpen is a tidy little profit for the Dutch club, and perhaps could be the long term solution for Brighton going forward.
The young goalkeeper has 36 appearances in the Eredivisie so far in his career, conceding 73 goals along the way and keeping just five clean sheets.
