Brentford have inquired about HSV Hamburg defender Mario Vuskovic but will need a ‘truly immoral offer’ to secure his signature.
That’s according to Hamburger Morgenpost, who say the Bees have joined Wolverhampton Wanderers in admiring the 20-year-old.
The newspaper reports that several clubs from the Bundesliga and Premier League are ‘particularly keen’ on the Croatian, and that number is growing.
Brentford are one of them and have now ‘signalled concrete interest’ in making a move for Vuskovic this summer.
Three Bundesliga sides have also made ‘concrete enquiries’ about the defender, although it was Wolves who first showed an interest.
They were told that a fee of €10m would be the minimum starting position for negotiations, and there has been no contact from Molineux since that point.
Brentford have now ‘received the same information’, and Thomas Frank’s side are ‘now considering’ whether to contact those in charge at HSV about a transfer.
The German side, for their part, have no interest in giving away a player they believe is their greatest talent. Indeed, he is the ‘cornerstone’ of their attempts to return to the Bundesliga next season.
They also hope that his value can increase in the near future. They are, however, in desperate need of money for their own transfers and to help fund the renovation of the Volkspark Stadium.
The player, meanwhile, is unlikely to put any pressure on the club as he is happy where he is. HSV, then, would only be willing to talk if they were to receive a ‘truly immoral offer’ for Vuskovic.
That’s unlikely to arrive from the Bundesliga, but the financial leeway is much greater in the Premier League.
Whether Brentford are willing to offer what HSV want remains to be seen, however.
