Brentford star Vitaly Janelt has confirmed he’s held brief talks with Germany boss Hansi Flick about an international call up.
The defensive midfielder has been a key player for the Bees since arriving in a £540,000 deal from VfL Bochum in October 2020.
He helped them to promotion to the Premier League last year and has remained a key man in the heart of Thomas Frank’s midfield this season, too, with 30 appearances and four goals in all competitions so far.
His displays, particularly a double in Brentford’s 4-1 win over Chelsea earlier this month, have earned him praise and attention too.
He’s yet to earn a call-up for Germany, though, despite having played for them at U15, U17, U19, U20 and U21 level since 2013.
That, though, could be about to change for the Brentford star, who says he’s spoken to Hansi Flick about his situation.
“I met him by chance when we played Arsenal in February,” he told Kicker.
“That’s when he ran into me in the tunnel, and we had a quick chat. Because Bernd Leno was sitting on the bench at Arsenal, he actually had to be there because of me.
“He also confirmed that to me. I think times that he has me on the radar.”
