Brentford wing-back Sergi Canós has ended up ‘in the orbit’ of Barcelona, according to a ‘confidential’ report from today’s edition of Sport.
The 25-year-old left Barca’s La Masia to join Liverpool’s academy in 2013 and has been in England since.
In his last term with the Merseyside club, he spent a season on loan with the Bees, before leaving Liverpool for Norwich City in 2016. A year later, he made a switch to Brentford on a permanent deal.
Canós’ performances helped him earn a new contract in 2019 and that deal runs down in 2023. Thomas Frank’s side have an option to further extend it by a year.
According to Sport, the Brentford player ‘has been recently offered’ to Xavi Hernández’s side.
The newspaper further adds the Spanish giants’ technical secretary knows the player ‘would be delighted’ to return to Barcelona.
Canós knows the club and it’s stated his asking price would be around €10m. In addition to this, his salary would not be a problem for the Catalan club.
Barca will ‘assess’ whether Canós’ profile would suit them for the next season.
Although his preferred position is on the wings, Frank has mainly used Canós as a right wing-back at Brentford this season. He managed three goals and two assists from 34 matches in all competitions.
