Brentford’s Bernardo Cueva has hinted the club will look to sign more Mexican players in future because he spends time talking to the scouting department about them.
The Bees have enjoyed success in recent years through a clear transfer strategy that has regularly seen them pick up players many have overlooked.
It was a system that worked to great effect in the Championship, where Brentford regularly picked up players on the cheap before selling them on for big sums.
They continued to do it in the Premier League, too, with several of their current stars arriving from lesser-known clubs such as FC Lorient, Midtjylland and Huesca.
One market they are yet to really dive in to is the Mexican one, despite the connection with Cueva, who is a tactical assistant under Thomas Frank.
It seems that could change in future, though, with Cueva insisting he talks to the scouting department at Brentford about his compatriots.
“I can guarantee you that, at Brentford, the club where I am, the scouting department is very strong,” he told Fox Sports MX.
“Over the years, the club has shown great gains by empowering the team through that means. They know about the Mexican players because I also spend time talking about them.
“In our scouting department, we are well regarded as Mexicans and also with that responsibility to represent the country well and they start to trust us and our countrymen more.”
