Brentford winger Kevin Schade has revealed the impending ban hanging over Ivan Toney was an ‘additional aspect’ to him joining the Bees in January.
The forward joined Brentford on loan from Freiburg in the winter window, with the deal including a clause for them to make it permanent in the summer for €25m.
He’s impressed so far, leading to a call-up to the Germany squad for the first time and a big interview with Kicker to boot.
That interview sees the forward discussing several aspects of his career so far, including why he made the move to Brentford in the first place.
One of their questions was regarding teammate Toney and the current issue of a possible ban after he admitted to 232 breaches of the FA’s betting rules.
It is expected he will receive a ban as a result, something Schade says was an aspect that played into him making the move. For now, though, he is only looking to learn from the Brentford star.
“That was an additional aspect because I can play in the centre of attack as well as on the wing,” he said.
“(I can learn) a lot, even if we are completely different types of players. He is very good at fixing the ball, technically very clean in his actions. This is the next level.
“If I have any questions, I can always turn to him. The whole team is very nice and gave me a great welcome.”
