La Liga side Villarreal may look at a move for Brentford goalkeeper David Raya if they cannot secure a move for primary target, Rui Silva.
That’s according to La Razón, who say Unai Emery’s side have identified the Bees goalkeeper as an alternative for their transfer plans.
The newspaper explains that the Spanish side are keen to add competition for number one Sergio Asenjo this summer, as reported by Marca.
They have already offered €7m for Silva, but Granada are holding out for €15m, which is the value of his release clause.
Negotiations are underway but should they not be able to reach an agreement they have an alternative in mind, and that is the 24-year-old Brentford goalkeeper.
He enjoyed a stellar campaign with Brentford last year, conceding just 42 goals in 49 games in the Championship and that earned him admiring glances from Villarreal.
La Razón state that he ‘would be close’ to the club and that the move is ‘an option that seduces’ him should it be presented.
That is all the newspaper is willing to offer on the subject, making no mention of the price Villarreal would want to pay or what Brentford would demand for Raya.
It’s easy to imagine the Spanish side are looking at a deal for less than the €15m they have been quoted for Rui Silva; otherwise, there would be little point in looking at an alternative.
What is certain is that if they approach Brentford, the Bees will demand as big a fee as possible, with them having become adept at getting good prices for their stars over the last few years.
