Brentford’s chances of signing Shakhtar Donetsk forward Mykhaylo Mudryk appear to be over, with Bayer Leverkusen pushing for a transfer.

That’s according to Fussball Transfers, who say the German club are ‘serious’ about the winger after the player made it clear he fancied the move.

Recent reports have linked Mudryk with a move to Brentford, with them keen to reinforce their squad in the summer after securing Premier League football for another year.

They had reportedly offered €20m for the player, but he made it clear he wasn’t all that keen, telling the Ukrainian sports website ‘sportarena’: “I am a Shakhtar player, but if the club accepts Bayer’s offer, that would be great. For myself, I decided that this is the only club I want to join.”

“With all due respect, I’m definitely not going to Brentford. That’s a mid-table Premier League club that doesn’t participate in European cups – and for me, participating in the Champions League is the most important thing.”

Now it appears he will be going to Leverkusen, with FT explaining that negotiations between Leverkusen and Shakhtar are ‘getting increasingly hot’.

Those responsible for the German side have now made a ‘concrete offer’ for the player, and those involved are confident a deal can be finalised.

That suits the player, who made his intentions clear with his comments and now appears to have secured a move to the Bundesliga as a result.
