With five goals in the Championship, Brazilian striker João Pedro has finally been able to show his full potential for Watford this season.

The striker joined the Hornets in a €4m move from Fluminense back in January, and after some months of adaption, it’s now more clear the investment in the teenager was worth it.

But things could have happened differently, as written by Globo Esporte today. Instead of João Pedro, Watford wanted to sign another youngster from the Rio de Janeiro side.

As the outlet brings a story on striker Marcos Paulo, they claim that the Hornets made an offer for him before they moved for João Pedro.

Fluminense considered Marcos Paulo to have bigger potential and they believed he could soon become the club’s biggest sale ever. That’s why they chose João Pedro to send to the Premier League side instead.

However, Marcos Paulo has been full of ups and downs this year, and there were no big offers in the summer, apart from a loan bid from Torino.

His contract expires in 2021, and according to Globo Esporte, Inter Milan are in talks to get him on a pre-contract in January, following his improvement in the past few months.

For now, it looks like Watford were lucky in getting João Pedro instead of Marcos Paulo. But that’s something only the future will tell, especially if he gets a move to Europe soon.
