As the Brazilian media continues to wait for Palmeiras midfielder Gustavo Scarpa to complete his move to Nottingham Forest in January, we today see a surprising story regarding the player’s future.
MSN features a piece claiming that despite having a pre-contract signed with the Reds, he could actually end up being loaned out to Olympiacos.
The story explains that since the club share the same owner, some of their players are being sent to Greece to gain more experience. That’d be the case of Ui-Jo Hwang Ui-jo.
MSN points out that with Olympiacos being knocked out from the Champions League play-offs, that could reduce their chances of having the Brazilian on a loan deal.
Now that may be a real possibility for the latest prospects Nottingham Forest have been keeping an eye on, but it’s quite strange to see Gustavo Scarpa being linked to that kind of move.
The midfielder is leaving Brazil as one of the main stars in the best club in South America. His résumé includes the 2018 Brazilian League, the 2020 Brazilian Cup and the 2020 and 2021 Copa Libertadores titles.
Scarpa is 28, currently at his peak, and Nottingham Forest would be making a strange bet by sending him to gain experience somewhere else rather than giving him a chance to prove himself in the Premier League.
Another reason to find this possibility is strange is that, given the midfielder’s recent success in Brazil, he certainly had more offers on the table, as he let his contract with Palmeiras run down to leave as a free agent.
One of the reasons for Scarpa to sign for Nottingham Forest is his dream of featuring in the Premier League, so if he’d move to a minor league, with all due respect to Greek football, it’s a lot more likely he’d agree straight with the club, instead of being loaned out like this.
