Manchester United have made a bid for the Ajax star David Neres, according to reports from Brazil this Friday.
Journalist Jorge Nicola reports on his Yahoo blog the Premier League side are offering €50m for the 22-year-old.
The story claims that David Neres was very close to signing a new deal for the Dutch side, but Manchester United’s offer had a big impact.
Nicola says Neres and Ajax had agreed to sign the new contract on June 27th, but it all changed when the offer from Old Trafford arrived in Amsterdam.
It’s claimed that Ajax have already said they’re only selling David Neres for €70m. And Manchester United even have that amount, but it’s believed they would have problems with Financial Fair Play if they spend all that… that could just be an assumption.
However, Nicola says this is the reason why the Red Devils missed out on signing Nicolas Pepe, who has moved to Arsenal in a €80m deal. Again, the FFP line could be an assumption, especially given how Pepe’s move to the Gunners sees payments stretched out over several years.
