Liverpool are interested in the São Paulo midfielder Igor Gomes, according to reports from the Brazilian media today.

Esporte Interativo is the one saying the Reds have been in touch with the player’s agent to get more information on his current situation.

The outlet managed to get these claims following a report made by Yahoo earlier on Monday.

The original story actually claimed that Ajax are following the 21-year-old and should soon make an offer for him. Esporte Interativo confirmed that information, and added the Reds to the list of contenders.

Ajax secured a deal for Antony from São Paulo last year, having paid an initial amount of €16m, with another possible €6m in bonuses. Yahoo says the offer for Igor Gomes should be bigger than that.

So in case Liverpool are really interested in the player, they should know he won’t be cheap. The fact that Igor Gomes has an EU passport makes things a lot easier for Premier League sides to get him.
