For the past couple of days, the Brazilian press has been reporting how close Reinier is to leaving Flamengo and joining Real Madrid.

Reliable outlets such as Mauro Cezar Pereira’s blog on UOL say the striker is close to completing a move to the Spanish side in a €35m deal.

Some Everton fans may remember the Toffees were heavily linked to the player in the summer, and were said to be on the verge of signing him.

The bid made by the Premier League side is recalled by Jorge Nicola’s blog on Yahoo today. He affirms that Everton offered €30m to sign Reinier.

He also says that Real Madrid have been offering €25m, and Flamengo are trying to push and get €30m, the same amount that Everton put on the table.

In case the bid was true, it sounds like Toffees really had the conditions to sign Reinier, and should’ve perhaps pushed harder in the summer.

Perhaps Flamengo were waiting to see if a club like Real Madrid would be offering more, and are now convinced that’s all they’ll get for the 17-year-old. From the player’s point of view, a move to the Santiago Bernabeu will always be more attractive, so that may have helped as well.
