February 23rd saw Manchester United battle their way to a 1-1 draw away to Atletico Madrid.

After Joao Felix opened the scoring it became a typical Champions League performance from Diego Simeone’s side, with them sitting back and allowing the Red Devils to have much of the play.

Prior to Anthony Elanga scoring a crucial and late equaliser, Ralf Ranginck’s side had struggled to get through their opponents. One of the big reasons for that was Geoffrey Kondogbia, with the 29-year-old midfielder putting in a good performance for the home side and making it as difficult as possible for Manchester United.

Therefore, it would be a boost if he’s unavailable for the return game at Old Trafford. That could be the case, with Atletico Madrid reporting on Tuesday that their player has picked up a thigh injury.

He was in pain at the end of the match with Celta Vigo, and Atletico say: ‘Our player will begin to receive physiotherapy sessions, readaptation training and is awaiting evolution.’

The return leg is on Tuesday March 15th, giving Kondogbia two weeks to get himself fully fit, which may be too short a period.
