Aston Villa’s chances of signing Abdou Diallo from Paris Saint Germain may have been handed a significant boost as he has turned down AC Milan.

That’s according to L’Equipe, who say the defender rejected the Italian side’s ‘advances’ as he was ‘not convinced’ by the sporting project that was presented to him.

The nature of the offer from Milan isn’t disclosed, just that it didn’t appeal to Diallo, despite them being able to offer Champions League football and a likely title challenge in Serie A.

That will come as good news for Aston Villa, who were linked with a move for him yesterday as they hunt for a replacement for Diego Carlos.

The Brazilian is a summer signing from Sevilla but ruptured his Achilles tendon in the win over Everton and now faces months on the sidelines as a result.

That leaves Aston Villa searching for a replacement in their back line and a report in France yesterday said Diallo, who is looking to leave PSG in search of regular playing time, was on their list of options.

Milan would have provided serious competition for his signature but it seems the player has ruled them out, potentially paving the way for a move to Villa Park in the process.
