Catalan newspaper Sport are reporting a ‘bombshell’ move as a young La Masia talent is set to leave Barcelona for Real Madrid.
Sport say Eidur Gudjohnsen’s son Daniel will leave the club and move to their La Liga rivals. The Catalan newspaper do their best to talk the move up, saying it’s a ‘real bombshell in the world of grassroots football’.
The reason for the shock is that Real Madrid and Barcelona are supposed to have a ‘non-aggression pact’ which means they don’t snatch youth products from each other. It’s probably a well thought out pact because things could get quite controversial without it.
After talking the drama up, Sport then calm things by explaining this situation is different from the norm.
Andry Gudjohnsen, another son of the former Barcelona player, has been at Espanyol and was in talks to join Barcelona. Those talks broke down and Andry has decided to move to Real Madrid.
Eidur Gudjohnsen would like to keep the family together, hence Daniel moving to Real Madrid.
