Chelsea owner Todd Boehly ‘will have to make some moves’ if he is to lure Christoph Freund from RB Salzburg.
That’s according to Laola1, who explain how the sporting director has turned down other offers, namely Ajax, in the past.
Freund was named as a potential target for Chelsea yesterday, with it explained he is high on Boehly’s list of targets as he looks to bring in a director of football to Stamford Bridge.
He’s highly regarded thanks to his work with the Austrian club, which has seen them become one of the best in the world at securing top talent, such as Erling Haaland, and then moving them on for good fees.
Boehly wants Chelsea to focus more on youth moving forwards and thus Freund would make sense as his new DoF.
Laola1, though, say the American would need ‘make some moves’ if he is to convince Freund to make the move to Stamford Bridge.
That is backed up by Heute, who say it is ‘unlikely’ the 45-year-old would leave the Austrian champions.
He’s been there since 2006 and has a contract that runs until 2026 and has ‘always emphasised’ how much he enjoys his time at the club.
Krone, meanwhile, say that Salzburg did not want to comment on the rumours about Freund potentially joining Chelsea.
That could be interpreted both positively and negatively but the overall consensus in Austria is that a move is unlikely to happen, even if the Blues do make an effort.
