Birmingham City are close to selling Diego Fabbrini to Spezia, according to claims in the Italian media. The midfielder looks surplus to requirements to new Birmingham City manager Gianfranco Zola, and a return to his home country looks imminent.
TMW have today reported Spezia are hoping to wrap a deal for Fabbrini after agreeing terms with Birmingham City. The 26-year-old will join the Ligurian club initially on loan for €200k, and they can make the deal permanent for €1.6m.
The finer details of the transfer now just need to be dealt with before he leaves Birmingham City. Spezia are also lining up a deal for Greuther Furth’s Damjan Djokovic.
Fabbrini joined Birmingham City 12 months ago from Watford after an initial loan spell with the club in 2015. Previous to signing for the West Midlands club last year the Italian had loan spells with Middlesbrough, Millwall and Siena.
However, the Birmingham City midfielder has struggled to get playing time this season, and has made just nine appearances in all competitions for the Championship side.
