Cheikh N’Doye, or Cheikh NDoye, was the subject of a French media rush on Thursday.
As we covered, first it was reported Birmingham City had made an offer to the out of contract player, and then, within a very short time, it was added that everything was wrapped up and the midfielder would be moving to the Championship.
N’Doye is no stranger to interest from England, and Harry Redknapp may feel he’s swooped in where others should have been. The midfielder has long been linked with West Brom.
West Brom made a €10m offer for N’Doye during the 2016 January window, according to the French media, but Angers didn’t want to sell midway through the season. Even before that, the player’s agent had claimed West Brom were keen on the player.
The interest from West Brom had been going back some time, as N’Doye broke through to the higher levels later in his career.
Now 31 years of age, Tony Pulis may have been put off by the player’s advancing years, but to not even make an attempt to sign the free agent is perhaps surprising.
That’s no worry for Birmingham City, and L’Equipe say the midfielder will sign for the English club, with Angers simply unable to compete on wages.
