On Monday evening, AS reported Chelsea have turned their attention to Kepa Arrizabalaga as they search for someone to replace Thibaut Courtois.
The Spanish newspaper explained the Premier League side are willing to pay Kepa’s €80m buyout clause. That’s the only way they’ll get him from Athletic Club Bilbao, with the Basque club having to be tough on transfers because of their strict recruitment policy.
AS claimed that Kepa looked well upon the move, with Chelsea presenting a very attractive offer which was surely related to personal terms.
Basque newspaper El Correo have done some digging and they say the English club are yet to contact Kepa at all. They’re not ruling out interest, just refuting claims the player is involved in any talks.
El Correo, knowing how their local club will react to any Chelsea moves, make it clear that any transfer attempts are going to have to start very quickly indeed if there’s hope to get things done before the deadline.
