Leeds United defender Pontus Jansson has told the Swedish media he’s found he’s going to be a father, and the news is the best he’s ever received.

Jansson’s partner is due to give birth to their first child in October.

Speaking to Sportbladet, the Leeds United star was asked about his thoughts when told the good news: “It was the biggest moment of my life when I was told. I was told just before my birthday (February 13). It just gets bigger and bigger each day.”

Speculation in Sweden is now likely to be whether Jansson’s child will become a Leeds United or a Malmo fan. The defender sounds genuinely thrilled and is already planning a sports career for his unborn child.

Since arriving at Leeds United from Torino in 2016 the Sweden international has become a cult hero with the Elland Road faithful due to his uncompromising approach.

He instantly became a key player in the Leeds United team, and his performances helped him force himself back into reckoning with Sweden after being snubbed at Euro 2016.

Jansson is also held in the same esteem at Malmo, a club he supported as a child and also started his career at.

The 27 year old is still known to travel back to his home country to watch Malmo, and he’s indicated in the past he would like to play there again.
