During the past few weeks, we’ve been mostly covering two subjects regarding Porto: the possible departure of Ruben Neves to either Chelsea or Liverpool, and the club’s need to make money for Financial Fair Play.
Today is the last day for clubs to deliver their income reports, and guess what? There’s a big bid for Neves on the table. That’s what O Jogo are claiming in their Friday newspaper.
They don’t know which club is bidding or how much is being offered. It’s just said that Porto are hoping to close the deal before midnight.
Although the bidder is still unknown, two clubs are mentioned: Chelsea and Liverpool.
It’s pointed out Chelsea have been linked since José Mourinho’s time in charge; and one of Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool coaches, Pepijn Lijnders, is a man who worked on Neves’ development for years.
It’s worth mentioning that other newspapers, especially A Bola and Correio da Manhã, have been pushing Chelsea and Liverpool. So maybe O Jogo are just looking for clubs who could be interested.
Neves has a €40m release clause, and that was the reported price for some time. But with all this rush and the midfielder’s lack of game time in the past couple of years, Liverpool or Chelsea could almost certainly sign him for much less.
