In the past few years, Spanish outlet Jijantes became a famous source among Barcelona fans, as they’ve been giving interesting news and, to be fair, it’s nice to see Gerard Romero’s excitement every time they get some exclusive information.
Today, however, they come up with claims which are hard for any English football fan to believe. Claims about Newcastle United’s interest in Raphinha.
The outlet had been speaking of Barcelona’s potential departures this summer, and the Brazilian winger could be one of them, with the Magpies interested in him.
Then it’s said that in the ‘past few hours’, Newcastle made a bid for Raphinha. They have reportedly offered €30m for the player… plus Bruno Guimarães.
It’s honestly hard to even start explaining how unlikely that would be.
Bruno Guimarães is a rising world star at St. James’ Park, getting huge love from fans since his arrival and becoming one of the faces of this new era at the club.
It’s hard to imagine Newcastle selling him to Barcelona right now, let alone trying to include him in a deal for Raphinha, who, since his move from Leeds United to Barcelona, had serious ups and downs at the Catalan side.
So we do respect Jijantes, but there’s surely no way this rumour can be taken seriously.
Even the Spanish reactions to their tweet are comical, with people saying that was ‘one of the fakest rumours’ ever heard.
Maybe if it was Barcelona offering Raphinha plus €30m for Bruno Guimarães, then that would be a reasonable story.
