Andrea Radrizzani has certainly had a roller-coaster ride since taking over from Massimo Cellino at Leeds United. There’s been highs, earlier in the season, and lows, let’s not mention the badge, but he’s thrown himself into the task.
That doesn’t mean Leeds United work is pushing Radrizzani’s wider ambitions aside, and an announcement on Wednesday from Eleven Sports and La Liga makes that clear.
The media rights company, of which Radrizzani is the chairman and founder, has secured the rights to screen La Liga in the UK and Ireland.
That means, if there’s no smoke and mirrors in the announcement, that Eleven Sports has taken the matches from Sky.
There’s no indication exactly how the Spanish games will be screened, but putting them on a digital platform and selling direct to viewers looks a reasonable option.
We’re excited to announce that ELEVEN SPORTS has secured LIVE and EXCLUSIVE rights to all matches from @LaLiga Santander in the UK and Ireland for three years until the end of the 2020/21 season

It’s a three year deal, starting from the beginning of next season and pushes Eleven Sports to be a genuine big player in the market.
